Club Information, In Brief

To begin with, Wigan Athletic are a football club from the Greater Manchester area. Although the club came into existence in 1932, the club has a rich history. Of course, Wigan Athletic play in a blue and white strip at the DW Stadium. Furthermore, the stadium has a capacity of 25,138. Obviously, the club moved from Springfield Park in 1999. Moreover, the Wigan supporters are a hardy lot having experience with the highs and lows of football. The atmosphere they create can be intimidating at times but they are a loyal bunch of fans.

Wigan Athletic indeed have a healthy trophy cabinet. For example, they have won the lower leagues as champions. However, they have also won the FA Cup in 2013 and the Football League Trophy twice.

In short, Wigan’s nickname is The Latics and The Tics. The club’s main rivals are indeed Bolton Wanderers. However, other local rivalries are with Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Preston North End, Oldham Athletic, Bury and Rochdale.

Finally, with such a history its hard to imagine that they only came into the Football League system in 1978!
